Unilateral False Cord Nodule Presenting As Hoarseness in a Young Patient

Vocal cord nodules are benign laryngeal lesions seen in professional voice users. They usually bilateral and thought to occur due submucosal edema hemorrhage, with resultant fibrosis. False occurrences very rare; hence we report a unique case of unilateral right false nodule. A healthy 16-year-old female student presented persistent hoarseness for two years without any history abuse, trauma, infection, or endotracheal intubation. Endoscopic examination showed mass occupying the cord. Subsequent direct laryngoscopy revealed friable on true involvement. Complete excision was done. Post-operatively her symptoms completely resolved, flexible endoscopic seven months post-op no recurrence. Histopathological fragments fibro collagenous tissue covered by respiratory epithelium, favoring diagnosis rare. In symptomatic case, endolaryngeal microsurgery gives good outcome.
